内容記述 | First, this paper aims to survey a body of research works on "memory" in the context of cultural studies both in Japan and Germany. Second, it tries to find out an appropriate orientation for theatre research if this special field of "old" human science should be explored in a new key of "memory". In contrast to the classical study of Frances Yates', who excavated "ars memoria" from the antiquity to the renaissance, recent researchers are more interested in such aspects of memory as the constructedness, the elasticity, the context-boundness, and the sociality: "memory" as "vis" (force). However, at the same time, a certain problematic nature of "memory" is also pointed out: "memory" as a traumatic past which does not allow to be represented in any sort of media. Thus it should be said that a deep chasm runs through the universe of "memory"- discourse in cultural studies. My suggestion is that this very dilemma in the "memory"- discourse is the reason why "authentic" historical dramas do not suffice any more for performing the past, and why new "memory"- theatres must be created. | |||||
